Healthy Athletes is dedicated to providing comprehensive health screenings and education to Special Olympics athletes, while also transforming the way health professionals engage with individuals with intellectual disabilities. The initiative not only addresses unmet health needs through a series of targeted screenings but also raises awareness within the medical community about the unique challenges faced by this population. By fostering inclusion, education, and advocacy, Healthy Athletes works to improve access to quality care, reduce health disparities, and empower athletes to achieve their best in both sports and daily life.

Responsibilities:
1. Support the Health Initiatives Team in the set-up of the Health Village prior to the start of screenings.
2. Assist with distributing equipment and supplies to their designated disciplines.
3. Set up tables, chairs, signage, and other event infrastructure to ensure venues are organized and ready for athletes.
4. Work collaboratively with other volunteers and staff to accomplish all assigned tasks efficiently.
5. Complete set-up responsibilities on the assigned day, recognizing this role is specific to pre-event preparation only.

Be a go-to guide for Fall Games! Help volunteers, athletes, and spectators by sharing event details, directions, and general information about Special Olympics Southern California. Help keep the info table organized with informational materials. Bonus: If you need to sit, no worries—this role can be done comfortably from a chair!

Help set up Rafer's Boutique for Fall Games. This will including putting out displays and tables, hanging clothing, and organizing the storage area. In this role, you will be standing on your feet and occasionally moving 25lbs boxes.

Spend some time at Rafer's Boutique helping athletes and fans find just the right SOSC merchandise. You will help set up displays and tables, hang clothing, put out accessories, organize the storage area, and keep the racks and tables full of clothing as items are sold. In this role, you will stand on your feet and occasionally move 25lbs boxes.

Spend some time at Rafer's Boutique helping athletes and fans find just the right SOSC merchandise. Unified Champion Schools is an inclusive school-based strategy designed to bring together students with and without intellectual disabilities to participate in activities in three core areas:  sport and fitness, youth leadership, and campus engagement. This strategy aims to develop leadership and advocacy skills for all students in the K-12 school community and throughout college and university campuses in SOSC’s footprint.

This individual has a passion for inclusion and wants to make a difference within their campus and surrounding communities. They have a drive for connecting people to each other through encouragement, inclusion, and acceptance. They will leave with an increased understanding of the inclusive school programming listed above, the important role of a college within the SOSC community, as well as experience working with a large nonprofit organization.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

The Unified Champion Schools (UCS) internship is open to current college students or recent graduates majoring in a variety of fields. The UCS internship may count toward course credits.

We are looking for a local volunteer that can help us bring our Temecula Torch Run to life!

Volunteer responsibilities:

This position is considered a Class A volunteer with our organization. Upon completing registration, SOSC will initiate a Background Check and reach out with next steps.

GOAL/IMPACT 

Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) is dedicated to creating opportunities for our athletes to find strength, success, confidence, and joy on and off the playing field. Making each competition meaningful to the athletes and to their families is important.  

The Games Management Team (GMT) is a group of volunteers that manages all aspects of the games.  The GMT concept incorporates several groups within a team to alleviate overload on one person. The GMT consists of the Games Director, Competition Director, Managers and Leads. Combined they are responsible for carrying out the mission, goals, planning and conducting high quality games while adhering to the predetermined timelines.  

 Volunteer Management Team (VMT) members assist with the overall check-in process at competitions and events. VMT members are typically the first face a volunteer sees upon arrival, and will help provide direction and instruction to volunteers.
